Education Minister OP Soni on Sunday announced to regularise 5,178 teachers with effect from next month with full pay scale. Besides, various sikhiya providers and volunteer teachers will be given a pay hike of Rs 1,500.

Soni said: “The government has been putting sincere efforts to lift the standard of education in the state. Regular jobs to teachers with full pay scale is a step in this direction. ”

“Sikhiya providers and volunteer teachers will get a pay hike of Rs 1,500 from next month. Teachers, who faced suspension during protests, have been reinstated and those who were temporarily sent to distant places have been ordered to join at their parent station,” he added.

Soni also asked teachers to revise the syllabus with students in view of the upcoming board examination.

“I am sure that we are going to get better results this year. We have been continuously working hard. During examination, proper checks shall be conducted by the officials to check copying,” he said.

Mangal Singh Tanda, convener, Government Teachers Union, said: “Regularisation is a good move, if it is implemented in its true spirit.”

Ashwani Awasthi, Amritsar president, Democratic Teachers Front, said: “We will have to wait for the notification. It has to be in writing.”
