5 killed, five injured in road mishap in Moga district

MOGA: Five people were killed and five others were injured in a road mishap at Sangatpura village in Baghapurana sub-division of Moga district on Saturday morning.

Moga, November 25

Five people were killed and five others were injured in a road mishap at Sangatpura village in Baghapurana sub-division of Moga district on Saturday morning.

Preliminary reports suggest that 10 people were coming in a jeep from Seeriwal village near Bhagta Bhai in Bathinda district. They were going to Mudki town in Faridkot district for labour work.

Baghapurana DSP Sukhdeep Singh, while confirming the mishap, said driver Sahib Singh lost control over the vehicle and it rammed into a tree killing five people on the spot. The other five suffered injuries. Two injured people were rushed to the Baghapurana civil hospital while the other three were referred to the district hospital here.  

The DSP said the injured told the police that a youth travelling on a bicycle came in front of the jeep in foggy weather. The driver turned a little to avoid the cyclist and the jeep hit a roadside tree.

All the deceased and injured belong to Seeriwal village of Bathinda district. The deceased had been identified as Sewak Singh, Badal Singh, Jagdev Singh, Hans Singh and Vicky, the DSP added.

Further investigations were on.
