The City Police have booked two sons of a senior BJP councillor and four others for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a 25-year-old resident of Sidhu Nagari here yesterday.

The accused have been identified as Satish and Pawan, sons of councillor Thakur Dass Siwan of Arya Nagar, and their friends Amit and Ravi. The other two have not been identified so far.

Siwan refuted the allegations and explained his position to senior police officials. Earlier, the party had served him with a show-cause notice over his meeting with Sandeep Jakhar, ex-president of District Youth Congress, to seek latter’s intervention to shutdown illegal liquor shops.

Describing his reply to the notice as not satisfactory, the city unit had recommended disciplinary action against him.

On Thursday, some residents noticed Sajan (25) of Sidhu Nagari lying near shrubs on the Seetogunno road. They subsequently dialled 108 for an emergency ambulance. It appeared that a jute rope was used to strangle him, with his hands and legs also tied up. He was shifted to Civil Hospital here.

Sajan said a Bolero van had intercepted him when he was going to pay obeisance at Durgah Panjpeer located near Dharam Nagari at about 6 am on Thursday.

Some persons allegedly dragged and bundled him into the vehicle, threw red chilli powder in his eyes, put some laced liquid in his mouth, tied his neck, hands and legs and thrashed him. Assuming that he had died, they allegedly threw him underneath some shrubs on the Seetogunno Road. CCTV footage near the crime site were examined to identify the miscreants. An FIR has been registered against the six persons under Sections 342, 323 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
