It was an eventful day for the Mukerian Assembly constituency on Monday. On one hand top Congress and AAP leaders campaigned for their respective candidates, while on the other, employee and farmer organisations held dharnas and protest marches at several places.

PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar, party MLAs and ministers campaigned separately in favour of Indu Bala.

Jakhar held a rally at Changadawan village under the Talwara block. He said there was a big difference between the words and actions of the SAD-BJP leaders. He said. “SAD president Sukhbir Badal sings paeans to Centre’s policies in Punjab, but in Haryana, he is seen condemning the ‘deadly’ policies of BJP-led government,” he said.

More such rallies were organised at Taggad Kalan and Khanpur villages. Former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Jail Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and MLAs Tarsem Singh and Sangat Singh Gilzian were among several other leaders who campaigned in the constituency.

State AAP convener Bhagwant Mann held meetings at various villages, besides Bagowal, Pota and Dhamiyan in favour of party candidate Prof GS Multani.

He alleged that the Congress and Akalis were taking turns to loot Punjab. They showed big dreams to the people, but did not fulfil any promise made to them.

He urged the people not to delay the battle of this revolution of change and make AAP candidates victorious.

Meanwhile, a large number of pensioners, led by the Punjab State Pensioners Confederation and state chairman of Punjab UT Mulajim Manch Mahinder Singh Parwana, gathered at Mansar ground and flayed the government for not implementing their demands.

They raised black flags and held a protest march in the town. Raising slogans against the government, they blocked road at Maharana Pratap Chowk in front of the civil hospital.
