Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has adopted a sympathetic approach towards inspector Parminder Bajwa, who had recently filed an FIR against Congress candidate from Shahkot.

The former Mehatpur SHO, who is currently under arrest, had even launched personal attacks at the Chief Minister.

Just two days ahead of the bypoll, the Chief Minister, who had earlier accused Bajwa of working at the behest of the Opposition and even shared his call details with the media, has completely changed his stand. “He was 10-year-old when he lost his father (who too was an inspector with the Punjab Police). He has seen many ups and downs in his life and is suffering from a bipolar disorder. I will tell the DGP to be sensitive towards him,” Capt said. Asked if he could be dismissed on medical grounds, the Chief Minister replied: “We cannot do this to a man who is not well. He can stay put. We have that facility. We will not sack him.” Recently, Leader of the Opposition Sukhpal Khaira had taken a dig at the CM and the Punjab Police for punishing an inspector who had received a DGP commendation disk twice. He had also expressed apprehensions that he would be dismissed once the poll code was lifted. Bajwa is in judicial remand till June 8.
