Don’t distort prayer: Takht to Namdharis

Akal Takht has cautioned the Namdhari sect to refrain from violating the “rehat maryada” (religious tenets) by distorting the Sikh “aarti” (prayer) prescribed in Guru Granth Sahib.

This was the reaction of Akal Takht to a video clip which went viral on the social media showing a group of women followers performing “aarti” of Thakur Dalip Singh, head of the Namdhari sect.

Taking cognisance of it, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said it was against the principles of Sikhism, as described in Gurbani. — TNS
