Farmer ends life over debt in Bathinda

BATHINDA: A debt-ridden farmer from Natt village of Bathinda district allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance last night.

A debt-ridden farmer from Natt village of Bathinda district allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance last night. The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Kulbir Singh. The farmer owned 2.5 acres of land. He was under stress due to his debt of Rs 17 lakh.

He was under stress due to the mounting debt on him. As soon as his family members came to know that he has taken the extreme step, they rushed him to the civil hospital at Talwandi Sabo where the doctors declared him dead.

The police have handed over his body to the family after post-mortem. BKU leaders demanded that the government should write off his debt completely and give job to one of his family members. — TNS
