Chandigarh, February 15

The ministerial staff across the state and employees at the Civil Secretariat and other government offices here went on a pen-down strike on Friday morning demanding that their pending dues be cleared by the state government.

The strike was called off at the Secretariat around 12 noon after assurances by an OSD to the Chief Minister for resolving their issues. Later, the state Chief Secretary met union leaders and promised to arrange their meeting with Cabinet sub-committee members (headed by Health Minister Brahm Mohindra) on February 21.

However, the employees in other offices as well as in other districts continued with their protest in support of their demands. A meeting of the Punjab Employees Joint Action Committee has been called tomorrow to discuss if the strike should continue till February 21 or called off.
