The police have nabbed a man impersonating as a doctor. Identified as Dr (Major) ARKSSR Gandhi, he has been working in a private hospital near Taran Wala Pull for the last few years. He was returning to his native place in Hyderabad when he was arrested from Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport here yesterday.
The fraud came to light when he suffered injuries in a road mishap around a month ago and was admitted to the same hospital. He suffered serious injuries in the spine and was unable to walk.
According to police, he generated the fake degree by imposing his name on the degree of another doctor. He came to Punjab and started working as an anaesthetist at several private hospitals in Jalandhar and Tarn Taran before shifting to Amritsar in 2016. He posed as an ex-medical officer of the Army Medical Corps. His date of birth was also different in Aadhaar card and the date given in the registration with the Andhra Pradesh medical council.
A case under various Sections of the IPC has been registered against him. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Investigations) Palwinder Singh said as per his curriculum vitae, he had worked as consultant emergency medical and ECMO physician at a hospital in Hyderabad, Chief Air Transport Consultant in the US, consultant intensivist in California and in the Army Corps in J&K. However, during probe all were found to be fake. He is higher secondary pass and earlier worked at a private hospital as helper in the operation theatre.
