Marathon held to promote ethical voting

NANGAL: The District Olympic Association organised a cyclothon and marathon titled “Bhakra Nangal Wheels and Strides” at Nangal and its adjoining areas to create awareness among voters about ethical voting and to mark 70 years of starting of construction work of Bhakra dam.

The District Olympic Association organised a cyclothon and marathon titled “Bhakra Nangal Wheels and Strides” at Nangal and its adjoining areas to create awareness among voters about ethical voting and to mark 70 years of starting of construction work of Bhakra dam.

Over 8,000 people participated in 5-km fun run, 10-km and 30-km marathon. People also took part in 100-km, 70-km and 30-km cyclothon.

In 100-km cyclothon, Shiven stood first in the men’s category, while Rutuja Satpute ranked first in the women’s category. In 70-km cyclothon Rahul came first in the men’s category, while Pooja Rano stood first in the women’s category.

In 21-km marathon, Karan Singh ranked first in the men’s category, while Seema Devi stood first in the women’s category. In 10-km marathon, Vishnu Veer outperformed others in the men’s category.

Ropar Deputy Commissioner Sumeet Jarangal also participated in the 70-km cyclothon.

Winners won cash prizes worth Rs 30 lakh and all the participants were provided medals, certificates and T shirts.

Renowned Punjabi singer Gurdas Mann enthralled the participants and administered an oath regarding ethical voting in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
