Sangrur: The police have registered a fraud case against two persons on the complaint of a Mehala resident, who alleged that the accused duped him of Rs 40 lakh.

Bhushan Kumar alleged that accused Darshan Singh and Sahib Singh had promised to double his amount in a month by investing his money in a finance company in Haryana. When he demanded his amount after one month, the accused failed to return the money. TNS

1 booked for illegal sand mining

Fazilka: The police have booked an unidentified person under Section 21 of the Mining and Mineral Act for illegal sand mining and impounded a sand-laden tractor trailer near Gharumi border village of Fazilka district. An Army official said during patrolling they noticed that a tractor trailer was coming from the opposite direction near the village. When the driver saw the security forces, he fled away leaving behind the vehicle. On the search of vehicle, illegal sand was recovered from the tractor trailer. OC

Rs 2.5 lakh looted at gunpoint  

Abohar: Unidentified motorcyclists looted Rs 2.5 lakh from a man identified as Gauri Shankar at gunpoint outside a private bank near the cloth market in Sriganganagar on Tuesday. Gauri Shankar raised the alarm when a youth who was riding pillion on a motorcycle pointed pistol and snatched the money bag from him at 11.15 am. City SHO Prashant Kaushik and four other officials led police teams to trace the accused. Nakas were put at all exit/entry roads. OC

Teenager commits suicide  

Abohar: Manpreet Kaur (18) reportedly ended her life by hanging from the ceiling fan at her house in Chak 16A village in Sriganganagar on Tuesday afternoon. Her father Amandeep Singh said she was under depression after appearing in BA (I) exam. OC
