Pensioners support policemen’s release

CHANDIGARH: The Police Pensioner Welfare Association has supported the pre-mature release of convicted policemen. These policemen were convicted of offences committed during terrorism days.



Chandigarh, October 18

The Police Pensioner Welfare Association has supported the pre-mature release of convicted policemen.

These policemen were convicted of offences committed during terrorism days. On a request of the state government, the Union Home Ministry has decided to release five policemen on humanitarian grounds. The names are yet to be made public.

Ex-SP Balbir Singh Khaira and Inspector Major Singh Natt, president and general secretary, respectively, of the association, said the policemen, whose cases had been recommended for pardon, had suffered long for offences committed ‘in the line of duty’. — TNS
