AAP MLA from Dakha HS Phoolka on Tuesday said that he will not reconsider on his resignation and this was his final decision.

Phoolka was called for a personal hearing by Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. He said that he once again submitted his resignation personally to the Speaker.

Speaking to The Tribune, Phoolka said that during his meeting with the Speaker, he conveyed that he was firm on his earlier decision and would not reconsider it.

He said that he has also requested the Speaker to inform about his decision to the House during the Winter Session, which is going to start on Thursday.

Phoolka said that the Speaker has assured him that he will consider his resignation.

He also said that he will not attend the upcoming session of the Assembly.

While speaking to The Tribune, Speaker Rana KP Singh said that he was examining the resignation and he will inform the Assembly only when any final decision is taken.

Phoolka had put in his papers on October 12 over the state government’s alleged failure to take action against those involved in sacrilege incidents and also the ones who had ordered the police to open firing at protesters in Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura in 2015.

Speaker Rana KP Singh, in a communication, had called the AAP MLA for a meeting on Tuesday. As per rules, an MLA has to submit his resignation to the Speaker. Phoolka had sent his resignation by post, which the Speaker office refused to accept, asking the former to send a one-line resignation and submit it personally.

With his resignation, the AAP’s strength in the Vidhan Sabha will drop to 19 MLAs, eight of whom have formed a rebel group led by Sukhpal Singh Khaira.
