Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday announced a grant of Rs 100 crore for several development works here and said paucity of funds would not be allowed to scuttle implementation of these projects.

Overall development of municipal cities would be undertaken in a holistic manner and as per their needs, in consultation with the mayors and municipal commissioners, he said in a meeting with newly-elected councillors of the city.

The process of comprehensive development, as envisioned by the state government, would begin with the holy city of Amritsar, Singh said.

The chief minister reiterated that his government was committed to the people who had reposed their faith and confidence in the pro-people policies and programmes of the Congress dispensation.

Punjab Local Government Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu assured the chief minister that the development works would be undertaken on priority.

Proposing a vote of thanks, Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu assured that no stone would be left unturned to ensure all-round development of the city even though the government had inherited a whopping debt burden from the previous SAD-BJP government.

MP Amritsar Gurjit Singh Aujla and MLAs O P Soni, Raj Kumar Verka, Inderbir Singh Bolaria and Sunil Dutti also attended the meeting. — PTI
