Faridkot, July 6

A bus of the New Deep Transport Company, owned by a senior Akali leader, crushed a cyclist to death at Pacca village today.

The deceased was identified as Jang Singh of Bhana village. The Dalit daily-wager was returning home when the bus hit him from the rear.

The driver fled after a long chase, even as villagers damaged the vehicle. They sat on dharna and placed the body on the Faridkot-Amritsar road, demanding the registration of a case against the driver and the bus owner.

Amarjit Singh, incharge, Kaler police station, said they had registered a complaint in the hit-and-run case.

The transport company is owned by Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon, an Akali Dal leader from Muktsar district. Dimpy had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly elections this year from Gidderbaha on the SAD ticket.
