The state government will set up 32 automated driving test, online licence and training centres to streamline the process of issuance of driving licences. Around Rs 35 crore will be spent on it. This was stated by Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar while laying the foundation stone of one such centre in Ferozepur today.

Kohar said the state government was concerned over the rising number of road accidents in which thousands of human lives were lost. “We are working on various initiatives to ensure that the roads are safe,” he said, adding that the usage of drugs and other psychotropic substances while driving was a major concern.

“We are going to tighten the noose around all such erring drivers who put commuters’ life at risk,” he said. Kohar said driving licence would be issued within an hour at such centres. On the occasion, Kamal Sharma, state BJP president, while praising this initiative of the state government said such centres would also save people from the agents who fleece money from applicants to get them licences.
