Students protest biometric attendance

FAZILKA: A large number of students of MR Government College staged a demonstration outside the offices of the Deputy Commissioner and principal in protest against the introduction of biometric attendance machines on college premises.

Fazilka, November 14

A large number of students of MR Government College staged a demonstration outside the offices of the Deputy Commissioner and principal in protest against the introduction of biometric attendance machines on college premises.

The students also took out a procession and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner demanding revoking of the decision.

Punjab Students Union office-bearers Dheeraj Kumar and Harpreet Singh said most of the students in the college belonged to poor families and some of them were daily wagers, but the authorities wanted to oust them from the college. The students rued that instead of spending money on providing basic facilities of drinking water, books and seating arrangements in classrooms, the government was “squandering” money on biometric machines. — OC
