Physical Culture for Girls

A BOMBAY contemporary draws attention to the good work by the Girl’s High Schools Athletic Association in Bombay during the last eight years in promoting outdoor sports and physical culture among girls. At first they were slow in doing anything likely to promote their physical development, but a marked improvement has taken place. The want of suitable grounds hampers popularity of physical culture among the 3,000 girls studying in 16 high schools of the city. Only girls naturally have not always to do even the domestic work requiring some physical effort which women in small towns and villages have, and it is necessary that they should be encouraged to attend to physical culture, the neglect of which has cost many of India’s educated women so dear.
