THE fearful toll of lives which the recent malaria epidemic took in Amritsar led to a visit of inspection by the Sanitary Commissioner, Punjab. The severe but none the less well deserved strictures passed by this officer furnished food for thought to Government and the people alike. One outcome of this is the increased attention which the local municipal committee appears to be giving to schemes of sanitary improvement. We have before us a report of the proceedings of the last meeting which seems to show that huge schemes costing Rs. 50 to 60 lakhs are in the air and heavy loans will be required to finance these schemes.
