An anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Saturday declared Muttahida's Qaumian Movement chief an absconder in a case filed by a senior Rangers' official. Altaf heads the fourth largest party in the country which dominates Karachi and much of urban Sindh. Rangers have recently arrested scores of MQM workers on charges of target killing, kidnapping for ransom and extortion. TNS

China's new radio telescope, stated as the world's largest could become Earth's "big sensitive ear" to listen to subtle sounds from the distant universe, decoding cosmic messages. The $196 million telescope, with a dish area as large as 30 football fields and expected to be ready by next year, is being built in a hollow formed in the mountainous Guizhou Province. PTI
