Bathinda, October 18

Farmers and farm labourers protested outside the Cantonment police station over luring of a minor girl of Bhucho Khurd village by a youth and taking her away.

The protesters demanded that a case should be registered against the youth of the same village who lured the girl and she should be brought back at the earliest.

The protesters raised slogans against the police. While addressing the protesters, Punjab and Khet Mazdoor Union district convener Giani Gurmail Singh Chak Fateh Singhwala, state president Zora Singh, BKU (Ekta Urgahan) leader Manjit Singh of Bhucho Khurd and Simranjit Singh said 26 days had passed since the girl belonging to a poor family was taken away, but police had failed to recover her till date.

Raising allegations against the police, they claimed that instead of taking any action against the accused, the police were harassing the girls’ family and demanding money in the name of conducting raid.

They threatened that if in the coming days, the police did not arrest the accused and recover the girl then they would intensify their protest. — TNS
