According to the railway officials, passengers have started getting access to free Wi-Fi internet services at all seven platforms, waiting halls and near the booking counters of the city railways station. Wireless routers have been installed at different platforms/locations at the railway station.
Station Superintendent Ramswaroop Meena said, “For the convenience of passengers, Northern Railways has started Wi-Fi internet services at different railway junctions, including Bathinda, recently. The passengers visiting the railway station can connect with the Wi-Fi connection via their mobile phone or laptop to avail of high-speed free internet service. Free Wi-Fi internet services are being provided at the railway station under the RailWire Wi-Fi initiative of the Ministry of Railways.”
Gurleen Kaur, a regular passenger, said, “Free Wi-Fi internet services at the city railway station would be really helpful for the passengers as they can check the status of their trains on their mobiles phones (smartphones) or laptops. Passengers can also check the status of trains and the arrival or departure time. Apart from checking the status of trains, the passengers can also do their work on their laptops or mobiles.”
Notably, in a bid to beautify and provide better services/amenities, the railway authorities have introduced a foot overbridge, lifts, waiting halls, plants and graffiti work at the city railway station recently. Even the digital display boards which were working erratically for a long time, have started functioning properly now. Explaining the modalities regarding the use of free RailWire Wi-Fi facility at the station, a railway official said the users are required to switch on the Wi-Fi mode in the smartphone and select the RailWire Wi-Fi network. Thereafter, the RailWire homepage automatically appears on the smartphone and the user has to enter his mobile number on the homepage along with the OTP which the user will get in the form of an SMS. After the verification, the users will be connected to the high-speed internet service. The demand for Wi-Fi services at the city railway station was long pending.
