Punjab Police walk away with football trophy

Mahilpur, February 20

The 58th All India Principal Harbhajan Singh Yadgari Football Tournament organised by the Principal Harbhajan Singh Sporting Club ended here on Thursday.

In the club category, Punjab Police, Jalandhar, defeated Punjab Football Club, Mohali, 2-1 in the final. The Punjab Police opened their account in the 22nd minute with the help of Sarabjit Singh’s goal. Returning in the game quickly, Punjab Football Club’s Himanshu scored an equaliser in the 32nd minute.

In the 62nd minute, Manveer Singh scored a second goal for his team, making the scoreline 2-1 in favour of the Punjab Police. After 90 minutes, the scoreline remained the same.

In the Under-17 category, Government School, Phagwara, defeated Football Academy, Baddon, 6-5 in the final. The result of the match was decided in a penalty shootout.

The Phagwara team got a lead in the 45th minute with the help of Rajvinder Singh’s goal. Making a comeback, Sajjan of Football Academy scored an equaliser in the 69th minute. After 90 minutes, the scoreline was 1-1. In the penalty shootout, Government School, Phagwara, edged past the Football Academy 5-4 to lift the trophy.

In the college category, Khalsa College, Mahilpur, beat Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Khiala, 1-0 to win the final.
