A tribute to Patiala-Kasur gharana founders

CHANDIGARH:The Triveni Sangeet Sabha, in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi and Chandigarh cultural affairs, paid tributes to the ages old Ustad-Shagird tradition and legendary founders of the Patiala-Kasur music gharana, especially Ustad Munnawar Ali Khan Saheb, through a classical concert featuring four maestros of eminence, including Ustad Raza Ali Khan, brothers duo of Ustad Mazhar Ali Khan - Jawaad Ali Khan and Vidushi Primila Puri at the Tagore Theatre here today.

The Triveni Sangeet Sabha, in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi and Chandigarh cultural affairs, paid tributes to the ages old Ustad-Shagird tradition and legendary founders of the Patiala-Kasur music gharana, especially Ustad Munnawar Ali Khan Saheb, through a classical concert featuring four maestros of eminence, including Ustad Raza Ali Khan, brothers duo of Ustad Mazhar Ali Khan - Jawaad Ali Khan and Vidushi Primila Puri at the Tagore Theatre here today.

The concert opened with duo Ustad Mazhar Ali Khan and Ustad Jawaad Ali Khan, the grand sons of illustrious Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Saheb, delineating the melody of evening raga Yaman.  In perfect sync with each other they commenced with the 'alaap' and a slow paced (Vilambat) composition  and more gharana hits to perfection 

Accomplished musicians, including Ustad Akram Khan on Tabla, Moin M Khan on Sarangi and Mohan Rawat on harmonium provided soothing accompaniment to performing maestros, while Dr Nashir Naqvi anchored the concert with admirable competence. Chief guest Gurpreet Kaur Sapra, Deputy Commissioner, SAS Nagar, honoured the artists.

This was followed by Ustad Raza Ali Khan's performance. Accomplished musicians, including Ustad Akram Khan on Tabla, Moin M Khan on Sarangi and Mohan Rawat on harmonium provided soothing accompaniment to performing maestros, while Dr Nashir Naqvi anchored the concert with admirable competence.
