Chandigarh, January 16

Located in the Shivalik foothills, the city today turned out to be colder than Shimla as the maximum temperature dropped to 11°C, 3.5 degrees less than the Queen of Hills and 10 degrees below normal. However, the minimum temperature in Chandigarh was 8.2°C, while in Shimla, located around 7,000 ft, it settled at 4.9°C.

It was the coldest day of the season. The City Beautiful witnessed severe cold conditions today, making it chiller than Manali, which recorded a maximum temperature of 11.8°C. However, residents are unlikely to get relief from the foggy weather conditions for five more days.

According to the Chandigarh met office, the sky is expected to remain generally cloudy for the next five days and shallow fog will continue further. However, cold to severe cold day conditions are likely over the city during the next two days. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the city are likely to see an increase from Tuesday, which could provide the much-needed relief to residents reeling under severe cold weather conditions for the past many days.
