The police arrested a member of a gang, involved in ATM frauds in the area, here.

The suspect has been identified as Satish, a resident of Alamgirpur, Muzzafarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh. At present, he was putting up in a rental accommodation at Dadu Majra, Chandigarh.

Giving information, Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Harcharan Singh Bhullar said the suspect, along with other members of the gang, had looted lakhs of rupees after exchanging ATM cards of several persons.

“The gang had committed more than 50 such frauds in several places, including Chandigarh, Mohali, Ropar, Ambala, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Meerut. The gang members usually targeted elderly persons on the pretext of helping them in withdrawing money from ATMs,” said SSP Bhullar.

They used to exchange the card of victim with another one and then withdrew money from bank account.

SSP Bhullar said another member of the gang, identified as Monu, had already been arrested by the Chandigarh Police. One more member of the gang, Kuldeep Singh, alias Guddu, is already in the custody of the Mohali police.

The police have recovered cash worth Rs 25,000, five ATM cards, a Honda Civic car, two gold rings, one gold chain and one silver bangle from Satish.

A case under Sections 420, 465, 467, 471, 472, 120-B and Section 66 of the IT Act has been registered against the accused at the State Cyber Crime police station, here.


Other gang members

Another member of the gang, identified as Monu, has already been arrested by the Chandigarh Police. One more member of the gang, Kuldeep Singh, alias Guddu, is in the custody of the Mohali police.
