Chandigarh, January 12

The Chandigarh Traders’ Association, Sector 17, has decided not to celebrate Lohri this year as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Association president Kamaljit Singh Panchhi said the decision was taken as the spread of coronavirus had not been controlled yet. They need to take extra care as people had started getting careless and this could prove fatal.

“Basics such as wearing face masks and observing social distancing norms are not being followed,” he said.

Panchhi appealed to all presidents of the Market and Resident Welfare Associations to come forward and guide their members to avoid celebrating Lohri and also follow the health advisory issued by the Government of India for the safety of their families.
