Chandigarh, January 20

The UT Administration is considering reducing the collector rates to make housing more affordable in the city. The issue will come up for discussion during a meeting of the Administrator’s Advisory Council likely to be held on February 10.

The council advises the UT Administration on developmental issues and policy matters. Members of the council include MP Kirron Kher, former MPs Satya Pal Jain, Pawan Kumar Bansal and Harmohan Dhawan, the Mayor, the immediate ex-Mayor, the Director of PGI and other prominent persons.

Administrator of UT VP Singh Badnore, Chairman of the council, had recently directed the Home Department to call a meeting of the council.

Earlier, the meeting was to be held in April last year, but could not be held due to Covid.

The UT Adviser, Manoj Parida, said various issues pending for a long would be taken up at the meeting of the council. The council could also discuss the reintroduction of the Apartment Act, which has been a long-pending demand of a section of society.

Owing to the high rates of property, the Chandigarh Housing Board had last year shelved a group housing scheme launched in Sector 53. However, with a reduction in collector rates, the prices of houses could come down in the city.
