Chandigarh, December 12

Riding high on their internal surveys, confident BJP, Congress and AAP claim they will win a majority of the seats in the Municipal Corporation elections scheduled to be held on December 24.

According to party leaders, the AAP got various surveys done in the run-up to the civic body elections for 35 wards.

“Our latest survey found that we are going to win 15 seats and will finish close in the remaining seats,” said an AAP leader.

Presenting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as its “poster boy”, the AAP is contesting the elections in the city for the first time. It is seeking votes in the name of “development” done in Delhi.

The survey done by the Congress found that it will win 20 seats and will give a tough competition to the opponents in other wards.

“Unlike other parties, our survey is practical and based on our position on the ground. We are comfortably going to win 20 seats and will have a neck-and-neck fight in other 15 seats,” said Subhash Chawla, president of the city Congress.

The Congress, which won four seats in the previous elections, is fighting poll this time on the issues of poor Swachhata rankings, dilapidated roads, increased water tariff, 30 per cent sewerage cess and door-to-door waste collection mismanagement.

The BJP claimed to win all 35 seats. “As per our local as well as the high command’s assessment, we are going to outdo our previous performance. We won 20 seats in the 2016 MC poll. This time, we are going to win all 35 seats,” said Arun Sood, city BJP president.

The BJP is highlighting its “development” work like 24/7 water supply project, additional water supply, CCTV surveillance for city, works done in education, health and transport sectors.
