Chandigarh proposal: No power tariff hike

Chandigarh, February 12

The UT Engineering Department has submitted a proposal for not increasing the power tariff for the 2021-22 fiscal to the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC).

The submission was made in the annual revenue requirement and tariff petition for 2021-22 to the JERC. Meanwhile, during a public hearing of the JERC, members of the Indian Citizens’ Forum submitted objections and suggestions to the commission. SK Nayyar, president, said: “Due to the bimonthly billing, the consumers are being forced to pay surcharges @ 4% for the total bill. If the commission wants to retain the bimonthly billing, surcharge due to late payment should be granted @2% per cycle instead of per month.” — TNS
