Chandigarh, January 20

Draw of lots for admission to nursery class was held at St Kabir Public School, Sector 26, and Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, here today.

St Kabir has 90 seats — 38 for the general category, 25 for siblings, five for the wards of alumni. Against 38 general category seats, 1,270 applications were received. Meanwhile, 22 seats are reserved under the minority quota, draws for which will be conducted later. The school had received 1,270 applications.

Parents in a large number reached the school to witness the draw of lots. They were invited to take out the slips bearing names of the candidates.

The draw was held smoothly. Similarly, draws for nursery was also held at Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School. Out total 108 seats, 65 are for the general category, 16 for siblings, wards of alumni and school staff, while 27 seats are reserved under the RTE Act for applicants from the economic weaker section of society.

To ensure transparency, the proceedings were videographed by the school authorities.
