History-sheeter arrested with 250-gm opium

MOHALI: Sleuths of the Special Task Force (STF), Mohali, have arrested a history-sheeter, indulged in at least three NDPS cases, with 250 grams of opium, here.

Sleuths of the Special Task Force (STF), Mohali, have arrested a history-sheeter, indulged in at least three NDPS cases, with 250 grams of opium, here.

The accused, identified as Kulwant Singh, alias Jassi, was arrested from Balongi.

Giving information, Rajinder Singh Sohal, Superintendent of Police (STF), said Jassi, a resident of Mundi Kharar, was going to supply opium to someone in Mohali when he was arrested.

“During interrogation, he confessed that he was a driver by profession and he sells opium to earn extra bucks. He used to procure opium from Ismailabad in Haryana and sell it here,” said SP Sohal.

Jassi had already been convicted in a case of similar nature registered at the Sohana police station. In this case, he was awarded six-month jail, along with a fine of Rs 5,000. Apart from this, he was also jailed in another case under the NDPS Act registered at the Lalru police station.

“At present, he is out on bail in the case,” said SP Sohal. Now, the police have registered another case against him under Sections 18, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Special Task Force police station in Phase 4 here.
