AI cancels Delhi flight for today 

Mohali: Due to operational reasons, Air India has cancelled its Chandigarh-Delhi flight (AI-463/464) for Wednesday. The flight departs from Delhi at 11.15 am and arrives at the local airport at 12.10 pm. It departs from the city for Delhi at 12.10 pm and reaches its destination at 12.45 pm. Air India manager MR Jindal said the flight in question had been cancelled for Wednesday only. Besides, the weekly Chandigarh-Delhi flight (AI 443/444) would not operate on Monday, Tuesday and Sundays between July 31 and August 10, he said. 

Labourer dies of snakebite

Zirakpur: A 28-year-old migrant labourer died after he was bitten by a snake here on Monday night. The victim has been identified as Surjit Kumar, a resident of UP. The police said the incident took place when Surjit was sleeping in an under-construction building behind Paras Down Town in Zirakpur. oc

One held in rape case, out on bail 

Ambala: The police arrested Naveen and later released him on bail as per the court order in a rape case, officials said here on Tuesday. According to the police, a woman reported to the Naraingarh police station on July 3 that the suspect raped her on April 27. The suspect was held and produced before a court, which ordered to release him on bail, the officials said. TNS

Two thieves land in police net

Ambala: The police have arrested two persons in separate cases of theft, officials said here on Tuesday. According to the police, Pawan of Deha Colony in Ambala Cantonment was arrested for stealing a booster pump from the house of Gian in Deha Colony on July 13. He was produced before a court, which sent him to two-day police custody, the officials said. In another case, Amit Kumar of Sambhalka in Panipat was arrested for stealing a motorcycle and two mobile phones from the house of Amit Kumar of Bandhu Nagar in Parav in Ambala on March 23. He was sent to judicial custody. TNS

2 more arrests in murder case

Ambala: The district police have arrested two more persons in a murder case dating back to May 6, officials said here on Tuesday. With this, the total number of arrests in the case has reached 20. According to the police, those arrested included Shahrukh of Ambala and Pawan Kumar of Rajpura in Patiala. They were wanted in the murder of a 22-year-old local resident, Mohit, who was stabbed to death by the accused near Sewa Samitti Chowk in Ambala Cantonment, the officials said. Mohit’s two friends – Gaurav and Deepak – were left injured in the attack and they both were admitted to the GMCH-32 in Chandigarh. The accused will be produced before a local court on Wednesday. Two proclaimed offenders held

Ambala: The district police have arrested two proclaimed offenders wanted in separate criminal cases, officials said here on Tuesday. According to the police, Onkar of Shehzadpur in Ambala and Jarnail Singh of Naggal in Ambala were wanted in separate criminal cases but were evading arrest so far following which the competent courts had declared them proclaimed offenders. They were produced before a local court, which sent them to judicial custody, the officials said. TNS

28-yr-old woman goes missing

Ambala: A 28-year-old woman had reportedly gone missing from her home, the police said here on Tuesday. According to information, Ashok Kumar of Ambala City had reported to the police that his 28-year-old daughter had left home on July 20, but did not return. The police have lodged a missing report and launched a manhunt to trace her, the officials said. TNS

94 challaned for violations

Ambala: The district police have challaned 94 drivers for various traffic violations under a special drive. According to the police, 38 violators were issued e-challans, 7 two-wheeler riders were challaned for overloading and 49 vehicle drivers were challaned for various other traffic violations in different parts of the district in the past 24 hours.
