CHANDIGARH: One person has been arrested by the local police with heroin. According to the police, Gagandeep, alias Gaurav, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony, Phase 1, Sector 26, was arrested from near the colony light point with 5.3 gm of heroin.

Woman steals gold ring 

Chandigarh: An unidentified woman has been booked for stealing a gold ring from a jewellery store in Sector 20. Mukhal Jain, owner of the jewellery store, reported that the woman visited his shop on June 29 to purchase ornaments. She asked him to show her gold rings and stole a ring weighing around 4.5 gm. The theft came to light later when the ring was found missing. The complainant checked the footage of CCTV cameras and found that the woman had stolen it. TNS

Delhi-Jammu flight diverted to city

Chandigarh: Inclement weather at Jammu forced GoAir’s Delhi-Jammu flight to land at Chandigarh international airport here on Thursday. The weather was bad at Jammu where the flight, carrying around 170 passengers, was scheduled to land. The flight was diverted to Chandigarh where it landed around 4 pm. After taking a halt for around an hour, the flight took off to its destination and landed safely at Jammu at 5.35 pm. Earlier, the flight took off from Delhi at 2 pm. TNS

Up resident held for rape

Ambala: “The district police have arrested Angrez, a native of Gonda (U), for raping and assaulting a local woman,” officials said here today. The woman had reported to the local police that the suspect, who was presently residing at Baldev Nagar, Ambala City, along with two of his accomplices, trespassed into her house and raped her.  “The suspect will be produced before a local court tomorrow,” officials added. Two held with illicit arms

Ambala: “The district police have arrested two persons and recovered two illicit arms and live cartridge from their possession,” officials said here today. According to the police, Happy of Naraingarh was arrested with country-made pistol and a live cartridge. He was produced before a local court, which remanded him to one-day police custody, officials added. In a separate case, Parveen Kumar, alias Binnu, of Shehzadpur was held with .12 bore country-made pistol, the police said while adding that the suspect was sent to judicial remand by a local court. Mobile add-on found in jail

Ambala: An earphone lead, six chargers, four batteries and three data cables of mobile phones were recovered during a routine checking in block No. 3 of the Central Jail here, the police said on Thursday. On the basis of information received from Central Jail Deputy Superintendent Vivek Sangwan, the district police registered a case and started probe. TNS
