Mohali, July 3

The murder mystery of a 45-year-old widow, who was hacked to death at Baroudi village yesterday, took a twist today after Badali youth Gurpreet Singh, an acquaintance of deceased Harjinder Kaur, was found dead.

His body was found hanging from a tree close to the main road near Baroudi. Police officials said prima facie it appeared to be a case of suicide, but they were investigating it from all angles. Sources said the two deceased were known to one another and their phone call details showed they had reportedly been in touch recently. The police have sent the body to the mortuary for post-mortem. Several persons were being questioned in the case and disclosures were likely to be made in the coming days, said the police.

Harjinder, wife of late Khajan Singh, is survived by two children. She had gone to milk cattle around 5 am yesterday. Her body was later found in a pool of blood, with a deep cut at the back of the neck. A domestic help had informed her family members about the incident.

A case under Section 302 of the IPC had been registered at the Sadar Kurali police station. Sources said a suspect was seen in the area around 3 am. Further investigations were on.
