Rupesh Narula, aka Ruby, a 25-year-old resident of Phase VII, Mohali, who migrated to Canada three years ago, died while celebrating Canada Day at Bluffers Park Beach at Scarborough, Toronto, yesterday.

A pall of gloom descended on the locality near his house in Phase VII when the news of his death reached. He got married about three months ago and his wife was to leave for Canada in July. Rupesh had left for Canada on June 20.

Bhavesh Narula, brother of Rupesh, said his brother had gone to celebrate Canada Day with his friends at Bluffers Park Beach and entered the waters after which he was washed away by the strong current. He said Rupesh did not know how to swim. Rupesh’s body has been kept at Collingwood Hospital, Scarborough, and his family members have already left for Canada to bring the body back to Mohali.

Rupesh had left for Canada three years ago on a study visa and after completing his studies had taken employment. Sabby Anand, area councillor, said he was a close aide of the family and friend of Rupesh.
