Chandigarh, December 22

In view of the threat posed by the Omicron variant of Covid-19, the UT Administration is all set to re-activate its “war room” meetings to keep a close watch on the situation.

In an advisory issued by the Centre, state governments and UTs have been asked to activate “war rooms” and bring back curbs, including night curfews and ban on large gatherings if more than 10 per cent of all tests in a week turn positive or if the occupancy of hospital beds breaches 40 per cent of the capacity.

A senior UT official said they would adhere to the directions of the Centre and would soon activate the “war room” to keep a vigil on the Covid trend. He, however, said there was no need to panic as the number of daily Covid cases in the city was still on the lower side, but people strictly needed to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour.
