Rain pours misery on Zirakpur, Mohali, Panchkula roads

The downpour this morning led to waterlogging and traffic snarls in various parts of Zirakpur, Mohali and Panchkula, causing inconvenience to residents and commuters.

Areas of Zirakpur witnessed traffic snarls extending up to Dera Bassi and the Patiala road. In Panchkula, commuters were stuck in traffic jam near Parshuram Chowk adjacent to the Industrial Area Phase 1 and 2. Traffic congestion was also witnessed on Airport Road and the Kharar-Chandigarh road.

The morning rain was accompanied by hail across the two cities. Various areas wore a white mantle, much to the surprise of residents.

The showers led to long traffic jam at the McDonald’s light point. It extended up to Dera Bassi on one side and till the Patiala road on the other. Commuters took the alternative Dera Bassi-Mubarikpur village-Dhakoli route to enter Panchkula and subsequently reach Chandigarh.

VIP Road in Zirakpur, Airport Road in Mohali and parts of Phases 7, 3B2 and 5 also witnessed traffic congestion. Commuters were stuck in traffic near Sunny Enclave on the Kharar-Chandigarh road, which connects to Airport Road.

Similarly, various parts of Panchkula witnessed waterlogging owing to rain. Commuters were stuck in snarl-ups caused due to slow-moving traffic. The Zirakpur-Kalka road also saw traffic jams.

Meanwhile, the region is expected to witness mainly clear sky with dense fog on Friday. The weatherman has predicted rain on Sunday and Monday.
