Chandigarh, February 9
In the MC election year, the Congress today appointed Subhash Chawla as the new president of its city unit. He replaced Pradeep Chhabra, who has been the city party chief for about six years.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi approved the appointment. An order in this connection was signed by AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal.
Chawla, a former Mayor, has been vocal about the MC issues and was often spotted in the House meeting in the visitors’ gallery. He had lost the last MC election when he had contested a councillor’s post. He was elected to the posts of Mayor and councillor twice. — TNS
