Chandigarh, February 4
Three juveniles have been apprehended by the Cybercrime Investigation Cell (CCIC) of the UT police for morphing pictures of their classmates and posting these on the social media.
The police said the juveniles, aged between 13 and 15, created fake Instagram profiles and uploaded the objectionable and morphed pictures of girls.
Sources said the girls’ parents had approached the police, following which investigation was launched and the suspects were identified.
Two of them are from private schools. “The accused had adopted the same modus operandi to defame the victims,” said a police official.
The mobile phones of the suspects have been seized by the police. These will be sent for a forensic examination. The three suspects have been sent to the juvenile home, Sector 25.
The police said a trend of school students engaging in cybercrime had been witnessed these days. They emphasised the need for holding awareness sessions in schools. “Owing to the continuous rise in cybercrimes, students are becoming increasingly vulnerable. They are not sensitised to the various risks of surfing the Internet, hence end up becoming victims of cybercrime,” said a police official.
