Two bankers robbed in separate incidents

AMRITSAR: Two bankers were targeted by robbers in the city on Thursday evening.

Two bankers were targeted by robbers in the city on Thursday evening.

In the first incident, a private bank manager was robbed of Rs 1 lakh. Identified as Namarta Tandon, a resident of Bhai Lalo Nagar, Mehta road, she was parking her car outside her house after returning from duty when the incident took place.

According to the police complaint, her purse contained Rs 1 lakh and some important documents along with plastic money (ATM cards). A case under Sections 382 and 427 of the IPC has been registered against unidentified person in this regard.

She stated to the police that it was around 7 pm when she returned home from bank. She was getting out of the car when an unknown person came and broke the window of her car with a brick and tried to steal the purse. Finding her poised to react, a robber’s accomplice robber threw another brick at her and threatened to kill her in case she tried to stop or chase them. They took away her purse. She said she had Rs 1 lakh, her passport, PAN card, 10 debit cards and keys of her locker in the purse.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) JS Walia said cops were scrutinising the CCTV cameras to find clues of the robbers. He said sketches of the accused were also being made to identify them. Further investigation is under way, he added.

In the other incident, an assistant bank manager, Sushant Kumar, of Rayya was looted by two armed persons. The unidentified accused injured him with sharp weapons and snatched Rs 7,000 near Rayya. He informed the police that he worked as an assistant manager with SBI in Baba Bakala. He was returning home at the time of incident. A complaint has been lodged with the police in this regard.
