Chandigarh, October 12

A local court today sentenced two women among seven persons to two years of imprisonment in a case of trespassing, rioting and attacking a brother-sister duo.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 each on the convicts, Nirmala, Sunita, Sushil, Rohit, Vikash, Parkash and Rajendra Parshad.

According to the FIR, Sumitra Devi, a resident of Sector 52, had told the police that on September 30 last year, she was at her home along with her brother Dharmender and 10-year-old son. Around 8:30 pm, about 10 persons entered the house and attacked Devi and her brother with swords and sticks.

Devi stated that the attackers had some old enmity with her brother and had come to assault him. While only five persons were named in the FIR, the names of Sushil and Rohit were added to it later. The court held them guilty under Sections 147, 148, 323 and 452 of the IPC. — TNS
