The Institute of Sikh Studies organised a seminar to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev here today.
The theme of the seminar was ‘Guru Nanak’s message for humanity’.
The first session was presided over by Sikh Scholar and Economist Padma Shri awardee Saradara Singh Johl. Sikh saint and activist Padma Shri awardee Baba Sewa Singh of Khadoor Sahib was also present.
Sardar Gurpreet Singh, president, Institute of Sikh Studies, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the academic and intellectual activities of the institute and its contribution to the resolution of several issues.
Prof Harpal Singh of the institute stressed upon the universalism of Guru Nanak’s philosophy — earning one’s livelihood through earnest dignified means and sharing it with the needy.
Prof Harmeet Singh of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, highlighted Guru Nanak's celebration of the working classes by referring to Guru Nanak's famous verse known as 'Babarvani'.
