Leopard strays into P’kula village, rescued

PANCHKULA: Fear gripped residents of Billa village near Ramgarh in the district after a leopard ventured into a farmhouse owned by senior BJP leader Virendher Bhau this morning.

Fear gripped residents of Billa village near Ramgarh in the district after a leopard ventured into a farmhouse owned by senior BJP leader Virendher Bhau this morning.

However, the leopard got stuck in the barbed wire on the boundary of the farmhouse. The animal was left in immense pain due to the injuries sustained due to sharp edges of the wire.

The caretaker of the farmhouse heard the animal writhing in pain and immediately informed the police. A police team, led by Ramgarh police chowki in-charge Ram Mehar, immediately reached the site. They further informed wildlife officials.

Later, Police Commissioner Saurabh Joshi also reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

The wildlife officials reached the site and shot a sedative at it, making the animal unconscious. They got it released from the barbed wire and put it in an iron cage. Later, the leopard was released into its natural habitat.

Chandimandir SHO Naveen Kumar said they had received information about the leopard at Billa village around 9 am. He said a police team immediately rushed to the site. The animal was captured with the help of wildlife officials. He said as the leopard had got stuck in the barbed fencing of the farmhouse and did not attack anyone.
