Police, paramilitary deployed at entry points

LUDHIANA: In view of the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab scheduled for May 19, the district administration has intensified checking in the city.

In view of the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab scheduled for May 19, the district administration has intensified checking in the city.

The police have sealed all entry and exit points to ensure peaceful and fair elections. As many as 11 teams of paramilitary forces have been deployed on various entry points of the city.

The police have also set up check-posts on 12 entry points where the teams of police and paramilitary forces are carrying out search of vehicles moving in and out of the city.

The police and paramilitary forces have also been conducting flag marches in various areas to instill a feeling of security among the voters.

Assistant Commandant, CRPF, Dinesh Chander Chandel said teams of the paramilitary forces had been deployed at 12 entry points of the city, along with Punjab Police.

“The paramilitary forces and police teams are conducting regular checking of vehicles to keep a tab on anti-social elements. Our job is to ensure peaceful and fair elections,” added Chandel.

Ludhiana Commissioner of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill said as many as 11 companies of paramilitary forces had arrived in the city in view of Lok Sabha elections.

He said more parties of paramilitary forces would be called in if a need arose.

“We have sealed all entry and exit points of the city where police teams and jawans of the paramilitary forces have been keeping a watch. The vehicles moving in and out of the city are being searched on regular basis. Besides, the police have also been keeping a vigil on suspicious persons,” said Sukhchain Singh Gill.
