In what can be described as the gloomiest day of the pandemic for Haryana so far, 125 persons lost their lives to the deadly virus today even as 13,588 new cases of Covid-19 surfaced in the last 24 hours in the state, taking the active cases past the one-lakh mark.

Hisar witnessed the maximum 17 fatalities today followed by Panipat and Panchkula 12 each, Ambala 9, Bhiwani 8 and Fatehabad 7.

Of the 13,588 new cases, 4,099 were reported from Gurugram, 1,751 in Faridabad, 920 in Sonepat and 897 in Hisar.

Of the 1,02,516 active cases, Gurugram has the highest active caseload of 38,560 followed by 12,196 in Faridabad, 7,267 in Hisar and 5,775 in Sonepat.

As many as 8,509 patients recovered from the virus today and were discharged, taking the cumulative recovery rate as on today to 78.70 per cent.

Haryana today tested 50,823 samples and with 13,588 of these coming positive, the daily positivity rate jumped to alarming 26.74 per cent.

This also shows that the testing is too low in the state considering that all close contacts of the positive cases are to be tested. The cumulative positivity rate of the state has also shot to 6.76 per cent.

According to the Covid bulletin issued by the state Health Department today, 1,383 patients in the state are in a critical condition, of which 1,152 are on oxygen support and 231 are on ventilators.

Today, 9,969 people got their first dose of vaccine jabs, while 5,699 were given the second dose.
