Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers slam US ruling at Glastonbury; 'really, really dark day for women', ‘f***ing evil’ they say

Billie Eilish, who became the youngest singer ever to headline at the 50-year-old Glastonbury Festival in England, used her set to protest the US Supreme Court's decision to end the constitutional right to abortion, reports BBC News.

"Today is a really, really dark day for women in the US," the 20-year-old pop star said from the iconic Pyramid Stage.  "I'm just going to say that because I can't bear to think about it any longer," she added.

She went on to dedicate 'Your Power', a song about older men who abuse their position, to everyone affected.

Another artiste voicing against the ruiling is Grammy-nominated indie rocker Phoebe Bridgers. She has been outspoken about abortion rights since news of the impending Roe v. Wade overturn by the U.S. Supreme Court was first leaked earlier this year. Phoebe made no bones about her feelings during her set at the Glastonbury Festival in England on Friday, reports 'Variety'.

"In all honesty, [the festival is] like super surreal and fun, but I'm having like the shittiest day," the 27-year-old artiste told the crowd. "Are there any Americans here? [Who want to say] 'F*** the Supreme Court' on three?," she shouted before leading a chant of "F*** the Supreme Court!" She concluded: "F*** that shit. F*** America. Like, f*** you. All these irrelevant old mother******s trying to tell us what to do with our f***ing bodies." Earlier this year, Bridgers tweeted: "I had an abortion in October of last year while I was on tour. I went to Planned Parenthood where they gave me the abortion pill. It was easy. Everyone deserves that kind of access. Here's a big list of places you can donate to right now."

On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a 50-year-old ruling known as Roe v. Wade that guaranteed nationwide abortion rights for women. The decision means millions of women across the US will lose their legal right to abortion as individual states will be able to make their own laws on it.

As the ruling was made public, Phoebe tweeted simply "F***ing evil", with no need to spell out what she was referring to, and added a link to the Mariposa Fund abortion-care providers.

Earlier this month, Billie Eilish world premiered a new song titled 'TV' at a Manchester concert, and it included the following lyric: "The internet's gone wild watching movie stars on trial/While they're overturning Roe v. Wade."

She later told the online magazine NME in an interview released on the same day as the US Supreme Court judgment: "I was in this state of depression, losing my own rights to my own body, and then I'd go on the internet and it would be people giving their take on this [Johnny Depp-Amber Heard] trial. "Who f***ing gives a f***? Women are losing rights for their bodies, so why are we talking about celebrities' divorce trials? Who gives a shit? Let them figure it out on their own. The internet bothers the s*** out of me sometimes."
