Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, nine railway stations in Hisar, Sirsa, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Fatehabad, Rewari and Mahendragarh districts, which are part of the Bikaner Division of the Railways will be redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs 125 crore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually lay the foundation stone of the redevelopment of total 11 railway stations (two more in Rajasthan) besides the construction of railway overbridges (ROB)/ railway underbridges (RUB) and limited height bridges in Bikaner Division in Rajasthan on February 26.

A Bikaner Division spokesperson said as per the master plan, the railway station in Loharu of Bhiwani district will be redeveloped at a total cost of Rs 18.58 crore, followed by Mahendragarh (Rs 16.59 crore), Hansi of Hisar district (Rs 16.19 crore), Kosli station of Rewari district (Rs 13.80 crore), Charkhi Dadri (Rs 13.50 crore), Mandi Dabwali of Sirsa district (Rs 13.23 crore), Bhattu of Fatehabad district (Rs 12.36 crore), Mandi Adampur of Hisar district (Rs 11.93 crore) and Kalanwali of Sirsa district (Rs 8.82 crore). Apart from these, two railway stations in Rajasthan’s Gogamedi and Raisinghnagar will be redeveloped under the scheme.

Bikaner Division Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Mehar Chand Jewalia said in order to improve and upgrade the infrastructure of the Railways, the redevelopment work at 10 railway stations was underway as PM Modi had laid their foundation stone on August 6, 2023. “In this sequence, the foundation stone of redevelopment works under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at 11 stations of the division and the construction of ROB/RUBs or limited height bridges at the 11 level crossing gates will be laid by him on February 26, 2024,” he said.

To ensure that railway passengers get the benefit of state-of-the-art facilities, the Ministry of Railways has decided to take up the work. Keeping in view the passenger load under the scheme on Bikaner Division, 15 stations were selected, which include Lalgarh, Suratgarh, Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh, Gogamedi, Sadulpur, Churu, Anupgarh and Ratangarh stations, Mandi Dabwali, Sirsa, Hisar, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Kosli, Mahendragarh. Now, six more stations in the division comprising Raisinghnagar (Rajasthan), Loharu, Mandi Adampur, Hansi, Kalanwali and Bhattu stations are being developed under the scheme.

The spokesperson said the scheme highlighted a long-term vision for the ongoing development of stations and involved creating master plans and executing them in phases to enhance facilities at various stations. These enhancements encompassed providing waiting areas, toilet facilities, installation of lifts and escalators, better sanitary conditions, offering free Wi-Fi service, setting up kiosks for local products through initiatives such as ‘One Station, One Product’, enhancing passenger-information systems, establishing executive lounges, designating spaces for business meetings, incorporating landscaping and catering to the unique requirements of each station, he added.

In addition to these, the scheme emphasises upgrading the station structures, integrating stations with the surrounding city areas, promoting multimodal connectivity, providing facilities for individuals with disabilities (Divyangjans), implementing sustainable and eco-friendly solutions, introducing ballastless tracks and building roof plazas. The objective is to transform these stations into vibrant city centres in the long run.
