Ripened wheat crop standing in about 48 acres was destroyed after a fire broke out in the fields of Ghuskani in Bhiwani district, the native village of Haryana Agriculture Minister Jai Prakash Dalal.

Lost produce on three acres

I have lost three acres of wheat crop. By the time I reached my fields, the entire crop had been reduced to ashes. We have lost the entire crop and now will have to procure the quota of grain for the family from the market. Pawan, Farmer, Ghushkani village

Will compile report for further action

The district administration will compile a report on the basis of the girdawari by the revenue officials and submit a report to the state government for further action. Government officials

The farmers said the fire broke out in a field and spread to large tracts swiftly and reduced the ripened crop to ashes. By the time the fire brigade vehicles arrived to douse the fire, more than 48 acres of wheat crop had been burnt in the blaze.

However, the fire brigade managed to put out the fire to stop further spread which could cause more damage to the crops in the region.

Sources said the fire started as someone threw a lit “beedi” in the fields. It got ignited as the dry crops are highly inflammable. A farmer, Pawan, resident of Ghushkani village, said he got information about the fire in his fields when he was at home. The fire tenders were informed immediately. But by the time the fire brigade arrived and doused the flames, the fire had destroyed almost 48 acres of wheat crop.

Pawan said he had lost three acres of wheat crop. “By the time I reached my fields, the entire crop had been reduced to ashes.” He said they had lost their entire crop and now would have to procure the quota of grain for the family from the market.

The affected villagers demanded that the government compensate for their burnt crops. The fire also damaged about 60 acres of wheat crop in Baans village in the Narnaund subdivision of Hisar district on Friday evening and another 15 acres of wheat fields in Sisay village of Hansi subdivision.

Meanwhile, the government officials said the district administration would compile a report on the basis of the girdawari by the revenue officials and submit a report to the state government for further necessary action.
