Karnal, March 26
A high drama was witnessed outside Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College over the death of a 40-year-old man after two women, claiming to be the wives of the deceased, fought over the right to cremate him.
Later in the evening, the body was handed over to the first wife and the mother of the deceased for cremation.
Hari Om of Raipur Jatan village was working as a driver with the Education Department and living with Beena Devi in Karan Vihar for the past 10 years. He allegedly consumed some poisonous substance two days ago and died on Thursday.
He was earlier married to Suman of Shekhpura in 2001. Suman claimed they had a son, Hritik, and Beena was not allowing her husband to meet them. She claimed Hari Om and Beena were in a live-in relationship.
Denying the allegations, Beena said they were married now. “My husband told me not to allow his first wife and other family members to cremate him. I am the legal heir of my husband,” she added.
Meanwhile, heated arguments were witnessed between both the parties and the police tried to pacify them.
